What if that Xbox game you have stored on a shelf could be turned into a digital license? Xbox has just enabled Disc to Digital for all users, a feature designed to give physical game collections a new lease on life.

HOW DOES DISC TO DIGITAL WORK?

The idea is pretty simple. If you have a compatible physical game for Xbox One or Xbox Series X, you can insert the disc into the console and claim a digital license linked to your account.

Xbox began testing this feature with Insiders in late August and is now rolling it out to everyone. The company says thousands of games are compatible, although not all discs work with the program.

Once you've claimed the license, some games can also take advantage of features like Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming, provided they're compatible.

And there's another important detail: the physical disc doesn't disappear or change how it works. The new license simply adds a digital option for eligible games.

XBOX ALSO DEBUTS MYTHIC ACHIEVEMENTS

The other big new feature is related to achievements.

Xbox began testing Mythic Achievements, a new distinction awarded when you complete all of a game's original achievements. Content added later through DLC or updates isn't required to earn it.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma shared a first look at unlocking the Mythic Achievement in Gears of War: E-Day, which requires completing all 55 of its original achievements.

Xbox is also preparing a new Gaming tab in profiles to showcase these achievements and progress toward them.

Between turning physical discs into digital licenses and recognizing players who complete their games 100%, Xbox has just introduced two major new features.
