Would you pay more than $3,000 for an item that was originally given away? That’s exactly what’s happening with one of the rarest promotional items for Silent Hill: Townfall.

Before the game’s release, Konami made just 100 working CRTV replicas, the small portable television Simon Ordell uses during the adventure. The units were sent exclusively to influencers and members of the press as part of the game’s promotional campaign.

FROM GIVEAWAY TO COLLECTOR’S ITEM

The CRTV isn’t just a decorative replica. According to the auction listing, the device can be turned on and play a series of promotional videos related to Silent Hill: Townfall.

And its extremely limited availability is exactly what sent its value soaring on the secondary market.

One of the 100 units recently appeared on eBay. The listing had attracted 69 bids and surpassed $3,000, while the auction still had time left, so the price could continue to rise.

The seller’s explanation is amusing: they claimed the device was sent to them directly by Konami and that they simply “don’t need it”.

WHY IS IT SO SPECIAL?

The CRTV is one of the key elements of Townfall. In the game, it functions as an evolution of the classic Silent Hill radio: it can be used to detect enemies and also displays signals and videos that provide information and clues. Konami confirmed that the device was designed using retro technology to achieve an authentic look.

A piece created to promote the game has now become a collector’s item that some fans are willing to pay thousands of dollars to get their hands on.

¿Tú pagarías $3,000 por tener uno de estos CRTV en tu colección? 👀
