Gamescom 2026 kicked off with a flurry of announcements, new gameplays, and surprises that made it clear that the coming months will be packed with highly anticipated video games.

From major franchises to new proposals looking to make a name for themselves, the event once again became one of the most important moments on the gaming calendar.

Gears of War makes waves again

One of the most watched games is Gears of War: E-Day. Xbox showed new material from the eagerly awaited return of the saga, which functions as a prequel and takes us to the moment the conflict that marked the franchise began.

For Gears fans, it's an opportunity to re-experience that universe from a completely new perspective.

The Witcher is also preparing its return

CD Projekt RED surprised with news related to The Witcher 3, one of the most beloved RPGs of recent years.

The studio presented a remastered version of the game and also announced new content, showing that it still has plans to keep this adventure alive.

And although many players are waiting for news about The Witcher 4, Geralt's return was enough to generate conversation.

Final Fantasy VII also had its moment

Square Enix took advantage of Gamescom to show new developments for Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, another big name that attracted attention during the presentations.

The Final Fantasy saga continues to expand, and this new proposal seeks to maintain the interest of players who were hooked by the Final Fantasy VII universe.

New games that could surprise

But Gamescom wasn't limited to known franchises.

One of the projects that attracted the most attention was Tides of Annihilation, an action-adventure inspired by the legends of King Arthur. Its visuals and combat were enough to quickly make it one of the games many players began to follow.

There was also room for proposals such as Control Resonant, Metro 2039, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Rainbow Six: Tactics.

Variety was one of the strong points: horror, action, RPG, strategy, and adventures for all tastes.

Xbox is betting big on what's to come

Xbox also had a significant presence, showcasing several of the games coming soon to its platforms.

Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, Alien: Isolation 2, and Minecraft Dungeons II were among the proposals that received the most attention.

And while GTA 6 didn't have a presentation at Gamescom, it's impossible to ignore the impact it has on the industry's conversation. Rockstar is still preparing its next big announcement for August 27th.

Gamescom 2026 makes one thing quite clear: gaming still has many surprises in store.
