Can you imagine exploring Vice City with your criminal partner, going to the gym, strolling through the park, and ending up fleeing from the police? In GTA 6, this possibility will be part of the experience and promises to change how we interact with Rockstar Games' open world.
Unlike GTA V, where we could switch between Franklin, Michael, and Trevor but couldn't freely share everyday activities with them, the new installment takes a different approach to the dynamic between its protagonists.
Jason and Lucia will be able to accompany each other on their adventure
According to an article by Jason Schreier for Bloomberg, Rockstar development director Rob Nelson demonstrated how this mechanic works during a visit to Rockstar North.
In the demonstration, Jason calls Lucia to invite her out. When she arrives, they can kiss, stroll through the park together, and even hold hands through specific interactions.
But it isn't all romantic moments. They can also drive around Vice City, visit a gym, and take part in various everyday activities.
During the demonstration, Lucia uses a treadmill while Jason does squats. Afterward, the couple visits a bank to assess a potential robbery, but ultimately decides not to go ahead because of the number of guards.
Later, Jason stops at an ATM and ends up stealing money from the back room of a gas station, disabling the alarm without arousing suspicion.
A new way to play GTA
What's interesting is that these interactions aren't limited to the main missions. The idea is that we can call the other protagonist and share activities while exploring the map.
Nelson described the concept as “a completely new way to play GTA, accompanied by another person if you want.”
That said, this isn't a multiplayer mode: we're still playing solo, but we can have Jason or Lucia by our side during certain activities.
What does this mean for GTA 6?
Rockstar seems to be betting on an open world where characters don't just exist to advance the story, but can also join us in spontaneous situations.
GTA 6 will arrive on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
